According to currently working psychotherapists, the mental illnesses described on this website are probably the most frequent ones in Cameroon. However, as there is no official research so far, this list of mental diseases is certainly not exhaustive and might be complemented with many other psychological disorders. The following links provide further detailed information on classified mental illnesses:
- DSM-5 classification of mental diseases in French
- DSM-5 classification of mental diseases in English
Mostly, a psychological disorder does not emerge alone but in combination with others (comorbidities), which can make the identification of an illness more difficult. It is important to notice that even the big classification systems (ICD10 and DSM5) are somehow arbitrary and have, thus, always to be seen in their respective temporal and cultural context. Fundamental research has still to be done for mental illnesses in the Cameroonian culture.
If you don’t find the symptoms you are looking for in one of the described illnesses on this website, please don’t hesitate to contact us using the contact form below or just by sending us an email. Our aim is to help as many Cameroonian people suffering from a mental disease as possible. Thus, any further information on how to improve the website is extremely valuable, both, for us to complement the provided information and to gain further knowledge on mental diseases in Cameroon.
